If you have visited the site before, hopefully you visited my photos page. But if not, now is your chance to see the brand spanking new design!
When I first had my web site in mind I wanted a common look no matter what page a visitor was on. I hate when I visit other sites and each link you click on has a different appearance. Getting my site to have a consistent theme took quite some time. I wanted to start writing a blog so the entire site except for the photos page is a self-hosted WordPress installation. Even if nobody ever reads my blog (actually you are reading this!) I think it will be nice to look back in years to come to see what I was doing or what was on my mind. I have to maintain many WordPress sites for my day job and it just made sense to stay with something that I am familiar with.
For the photos page I decided to go with SmugMug. SmugMug has been around for quite some time and advanced customization is available for those willing to get knee deep in some coding. I may have banged my head against the wall a few times throughout the customization phase, but was happy with what I was able to produce. And then SmugMug dropped a bomb on me, and the entire photography world in general, when they introduced their new service. They rebuilt the entire system from the ground up to focus on large beautiful collages and offering easy customization without having to touch any code. The only “catch” is that all the advanced customization that was previously done could not be used on the new system. I bit the bullet and redesigned my site based on the new system. All of that being said I am amazed at the new SmugMug service. It is so easy for non-tech people to put together a gorgeous site in hardly no time at all. I was hesitant to try it after I spent so much time on the original design, but I am pleased with the end result.
Don’t forget all photos are available for sale!
The above image is from a photowalk I participated in today for the Lancaster County Photographers Meetup.com group. If you live in the area and want to learn about all those dials on your camera, what makes a good image, or the many different aspects of photography then I highly recommend this group. It was such a fun event even if we got a little rained on during the outing. Thanks to Brian Evans for leading my group and the rest of the organizers for putting it together.
